DfE proposal for new school careers support : Member feedback session

Free to members and non-members

In this webinar, CDI Chief Executive David Morgan will walk through the DfE proposals and ask; are there any areas that members feel should be added, removed or amended to add greater value to the services provided?

Free to attend
The Department for Education have held a market engagement event as the start of a potential tender for the provision for careers education support for schools, colleges and others in England. This is essentially the work currently delivered by the Careers and Enterprise Company, with some changes including a greater focus on supporting young people with additional needs, parity of esteem of vocational and technical education, and further devolution of responsibility and funding to careers hubs.

Careers education support to schools and colleges is a significant investment by government, with the contract worth up to £36m per year, and provides wide ranging support for careers leaders in developing and delivering against the Gatsby benchmarks. The CDI are therefore keen to provide input to the tender development that builds on the good work in place and recognises potential areas for further focus.

Following the market engagement event, the DfE have asked for comments on the proposed approach and scope of the tender, and the CDI are hosting this webinar to gather feedback from CDI members and other career development professionals working in primary, secondary and further education in England, for their thoughts on the proposals.

In the webinar, CDI Chief Executive David Morgan will walk through the DfE proposals and ask; are there any areas that members feel should be added, removed or amended to add greater value to the services provided?

The aim is to feed this back to DfE to inform the next stage of the tender development. Further market engagement by DfE is planned for June, with the tender documents coming out over summer. The aim is to award the contract in early 2027 for the service to commence in September 2027.

Note: While the CDI may or may not be involved with any responses to the tender, we aim to be neutral with our feedback to the DfE. Everyone is welcome to attend the webinar and, as well as sending a summary of the discussion to DfE, we will also publish it as a Careers News article on the CDI website.
