Ethical challenges in career development rarely arrive as clear dilemmas. More often, they emerge in subtle, everyday moments, when boundaries begin to blur, the Client needs become more complex, or when the emotional weight of the work starts to build.
This interactive workshop explores the reality of ethical practice in client work. Rather than focusing solely on theory, it centres on the moments where our professional judgement is required - and where even experienced practitioners can feel uncertain.
Through real-world scenarios, discussion, and reflection, we will explore:
- How professional boundaries can shift gradually over time, often without being immediately obvious
- The challenge of navigating ethical grey areas, where there is no single “right” answer
- Managing client dependency, over-engagement, and scope creep
- Recognising and responding to the impact of emotional labour, including how it shows up between sessions
- Balancing empathy and support with professional responsibility and appropriate boundaries
The extended format allows for deeper reflection, shared experience, and practical application, particularly valuable for those working in roles where ethical decision-making can feel isolating.
