T Level starts increase by 7.8% in 2025-26
The Department for Education has published the latest statistics for T Levels, showing an increase in starts of 7.8% to 27,446 learners in 2025-26. The most popular T Levels are in Education and Early years (5,723), Health and Science (3,921) and Engineering and Manufacturing (2,479). Of those rolled out more recently, Agriculture, Environmental and Animal Care had the highest starts at 1,873 despite only rolling out in 2024-25.
T Level student characteristics are published for the 2024-25 academic year. T Level learners were fairly evenly split between female and male, with female students closing the gap - up from 45.3% of the cohort in 2022-23 to 49.3% in 2024-25. However, significant differences remain for individual T Level subjects.
In terms of ethnicity, white students tend to be over-represented on T Levels, while all other ethnic groups are below their share of the general 16-year-old population. However, in all cases the gap is narrowing, especially for black students.
Young people on free School Meals are also under-represented in T Levels, though again the gap is narrowing with the comparison figures.
