Persistent disadvantaged pupils 22 months of learning behind peers
Teach First has launched their ‘Class Dismissed’ report looking at the gap for persistently disadvantaged pupils – those who spend 80% or more of their school life on financial support to meet basic needs.
The report finds that, by GCSEs stage, pupils facing persistent disadvantage are 22 months of learning behind their peers, and have a 25.5% chance of not progressing towards a qualification or apprenticeship.
However, the report found 88 state-funded schools where disadvantaged pupils actually outperformed their peers nationally.
The report outlines the nature of persistent disadvantage, details of the analysis, and highlights those schools who buck the trend, offering insight on how they achieved it.
