UK occupations with the highest workforce demand
Skills England has published its latest Occupations in Demand analysis, using five labour market indicators to classify occupations as critical, elevated or not in high demand. The number of occupations in critical demand has risen since 2024.
62 out of 368 occupations are considered to be in critical demand, representing around 15% of the UK workforce. Specialist medical practitioners show the highest level of demand.
Among occupations with elevated demand, the biggest are care workers and home carers, with health and social care the industry with the highest number of in demand workers. While a smaller industry, information and communications (e.g. programmers and software developers) has the highest proportion of workers in high demand jobs.
