UK business leader confidence jumps in January
The Institute of Directors’ Economic Confidence Index showed a significant rise in business leader confidence in January.
Overall business leader optimism for the UK economy rose from -66 to -48 in January, a significant step up. This was also reflected in their confidence for their own business – up from -4 to +14.
The results also showed improvement in a number of underlying factors for their organisations, including revenue expectations (from +8 to +23), exports (from +5 to +11), headcount growth (from -14 to -2) and investment (from -21 to -5).
The IoD reported the changes as ‘fairly chunky’.
