UCAS shares resources for National Careers Week
UCAS have shared three key resources for careers teams to use with their young people this National Careers Week (NCW).
With NCW running from 2nd to 7th March, with the theme of ‘own your future’, UCAS has shared three resources covering skills fairs, virtual work experience and engaging parents.
First, a guest blog post by well-known careers expert Liane Hambly looks at how to make the most of careers fairs. In the post she suggests shifting from a focus on knowledge at the fairs to the development of skills – creating skills-first careers fairs. Her post includes a list of five-minute activities related to different skills to help exhibitors and organisers develop meaningful content.
The second resource is a bank of virtual work experiences develop by industry experts. There are experiences online for 19 different sectors, featuring multiple companies under each. From transport to social care, marketing to healthcare, the resources are worth exploring.
Finally, careers adviser James Wilmot joins apprenticeship manager Emily Pearson on the UCAS Parents’ podcast to explore the full range of options for young people. Episode 3 of the podcast helps parents understand the full range of options available to their child after school, from apprenticeships to university and everything in between.
