The future of career education and guidance in England’s schools
At the National Careers Leaders’ Conference, the CDI and iCeGS were delighted that David Andrews preceded his retirement by giving the closing talk, looking back at careers education and guidance in England’s schools, and taking lessons for policymakers to learn from to ensure a positive future.
David’s analysis and recommendations for the future have now been published in an article in October’s issue of the Journal of the National Institute for Career Education and Counselling.
David’s article outlines his career and the lessons he has learned throughout his work in career development, he outlines the frameworks and support in place, his view on the current position and recommendations for the future.
Recommendations include promoting the CDI’s Career Development Framework, statutory inclusion of careers education and work-related learning in the curriculum, introducing careers education and guidance to initial teacher training and the National Professional Qualification for Headship, and funding for a qualified careers adviser workforce and for support through Careers Hubs.
