Progress tackling child poverty in Northern Ireland has stalled

In its report on poverty in Northern Ireland, Joseph Rowntree Foundation says that progress on tackling child poverty has stalled and investment is needed to create a better future for children. Around one in four children lives in poverty.

It sees in-work poverty as one of the most pressing issues, as most people in poverty are in working families, with over half of workers experiencing low pay in the last five years.

It sees a child payment delivered through the social security system as a priority, along with labour and housing market reforms.
