Only 12% of people know the Lifelong Learning Entitlement is coming
The Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) has published a blog post summarising the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) and looking towards its launch in under a year.
The LLE provides tuition fee loans equivalent to four years of study, replacing existing loans for study at levels 4, 5 and 6, streamlining the adult student loans system. The LLE also provides greater flexibility, with some modular study covered.
However, an evaluation of the higher education short course trial, carried out by CRAC, raised a number of challenges with the modular learning approach, and concerns still exist.
A major challenge is the lack of awareness and understanding of the LLE, with research showing only 12% of adults in England are aware of the funding. However, this varies by age and geography.
Linked to this will be the availability of modular courses, with the list of providers not released until this summer ahead of applications opening in September. The detailed regulatory information on modular courses has yet to be published by the Office for Students.
