Impactful personal guidance and group sessions in the US
Findings from the 2024-25 Montgomery County Careers Advisory Programme are a case study of the value of careers guidance for young people.
With fifty-two career coaches working directly with students, the programme reached 87,000 young people in 76 schools across the county. Coaches used the RIASEC framework to guide career development sessions and exploration activities.
The results show that personalised one-on-one and small-group career discussions had the most impact, increasing student engagement, clarity of next steps, and congruence between interests and abilities.
Other important factors that the report highlights are pairing exploration with reflection, scaling access based on the conversations with each individual, and tailoring support by developmental stage.
