Barclays LifeSkills launches Formula 1 skills competition for schools

Barclays LifeSkills has launched Accelerate Your Skills, a national competition that sets young people aged 11 to 25 a real-world brief from the Atlassian Williams Formula 1 Team, marking the team's 50th anniversary. Working in teams, young people explore how an iconic brand can inspire people, using AI as a supporting tool while building human skills such as creativity, communication, problem-solving, adaptability and critical thinking.

For careers leaders and advisers in schools, it's a ready-made way to bring an employer's brief into the classroom and open up conversations about the skills employers value, including how to use AI responsibly at work. The competition runs over three phases - research, ideation and presentation - each needing at least one lesson, and entries take the form of a presentation of up to 10 slides. Leader and young person toolkits, plus extra 'skills pit stop' resources, are available once you register.

National winners receive £5,000 for their school, college or organisation, and regional winners receive £1,000, with extra prizes for winning team members. There are three age categories (11-14, 14-16 and 16-25) across ten regions covering England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Entries must be registered and submitted by a teacher, careers leader or youth leader by 23:59 on Friday 18 December 2026. Winners will be announced at a live online event with Barclays and the Atlassian Williams F1 Team on Friday 29 January 2027.

Read more and register for the Accelerate Your Skills competition.
