Welsh Hospitality Hero brings careers into primary schools

A new initiative led by Welsh‑based hotelier and Hospitality Hero founder Steven Hesketh is taking hospitality career awareness into primary schools. The programme aims to inspire younger children by giving them a hands‑on introduction to the industry and highlighting the breadth of roles available.

The session included practical activities such as mocktail making, restaurant design, napkin folding and food decoration, giving pupils a first‑hand experience of what working in the sector can involve. Pupils also received copies of Bee Our Guest, a children’s book written by Hesketh to showcase the creativity, teamwork and problem‑solving involved in hospitality.

Hesketh said the initiative is designed to challenge outdated perceptions of hospitality and to help children see it as a dynamic, skilled and rewarding career path. The programme forms part of a wider effort to strengthen early careers awareness and employer engagement within primary schools across Wales.

The Hospitality Hero team plans to expand the workshops to more schools, with the aim of building long‑term interest in hospitality careers and supporting the future talent pipeline.
