University education seen as less beneficial than 20 years ago
The latest BSA Higher Education survey explores public attitudes towards higher education across the UK. This year’s report, the 43rd, shows a continued shift away from people feeling university is worth the time and money. Those saying it isn’t worth it have risen from 14% in 2005 to 34% this year (with 239% of non-graduates of this view compared to 27% of graduates).
Those who believe that people who go to university earn more money has fallen from 50% in 2005 to 36% now.
Despite this, there are a still a large majority of people who think paying for university by the individual is right, through support has declined. 69% of people say students should pay for their tuition, down from 77% in 2004, and 61% feel tuition feels should be lower than the current cap.
