UK skills classifications launches

Skills England has published the UK Standard Skills Classification to provide a comprehensive database of the skills used and needed across the UK economy.

The classification as created by University of Warwick’s Institute for Employment Research and the University of Sheffield, working with Omnifolio. It provides a standardised list of categories covering the skills, required across all occupations in the UK, including the knowledge and tasks associated with the skills.

The UK Skills Explorer online tool allows users to browse all the skills categories and find detailed information on each. For example, under ‘Advising and supporting on education and personal development’ is ‘Provide advice on career development’ (S.2513), with the detail listing the core skills proficiencies needed, related skills, knowledge and tasks, as well as related occupations and qualifications.

The classification gives a consistent approach to talking about skills as well as providing a comprehensive database.
