Social Care Wales survey reveals workforce insights and ongoing challenges
Social Care Wales has published findings from its third annual ‘Have Your Say’ workforce survey, offering detailed insights into the experiences, motivations, and challenges faced by over 5,700 social care workers across Wales.
The survey reports that wellbeing levels among social care workers in Wales now exceed the UK average, marking a positive shift in workforce morale. Respondents highlighted making a difference and supporting others as key drivers for entering and staying in the sector.
Many workers expressed a desire for clearer career pathways, more accessible training, and better recognition of skills, especially for those in frontline roles. Despite improvements in wellbeing, pay and working conditions continue to be cited as significant barriers to retention and progression.
Workers called for stronger leadership, more consistent support, and greater opportunities for professional development across settings.
The findings are intended to inform future workforce planning, policy development, and support mechanisms led by Social Care Wales and its partners.
