Post-16 educational achievement in Wales remains steady

Medr has published the post-16 educational outcomes for students in Wales for the year 2024-25.

The overall completion rate for general education (A levels) has risen slightly, as has the rate of achievement of 3 A* to C grades. However, at the top end, a lower proportion of students received 3 A* to A grades.

The completion rate for vocational education also rose, as did the success rate. Success rates varied significantly from 97% in retail and commercial enterprise, to 47% in Information and Communication Technology.

Medr has also published the outcomes for apprenticeships and adult community learning for the same year.

While apprenticeship success rates are below pre-pandemic levels, they increased 2 percentage points to 77%. Sectors such as management and professional, business administration and healthcare and public services all saw rises. However, falls in success rates were seen in construction and engineering.

The gap between the success rates of apprentices from deprived and non-deprived areas also reduced by 2 percentage points.
