New transition fund supports oil and gas workers
The Scottish and UK Governments have jointly launched a £6 million Oil and Gas Transition Training Fund to help workers develop new skills and move into emerging industries. Managed by Skills Development Scotland, the fund supports Scotland's commitment to a just transition by helping experienced workers access training for careers in sectors with growing demand.
For the first time, the fund is open to eligible oil and gas workers across Scotland who have worked in the industry or its supply chain within the past two years. Successful applicants can receive funding for industry-recognised training, certification and qualifications, alongside careers support to help them progress into new employment.
The fund will support training for roles in clean energy, wider decarbonisation industries, advanced manufacturing, life sciences and defence. By widening access beyond the north east of Scotland, the programme aims to ensure workers across the country can benefit from new employment opportunities as the energy sector continues to evolve.
The initiative builds on previous pilot programmes that helped hundreds of workers retrain for new careers. With investment from both the Scottish and UK Governments, the expanded fund is expected to help more people retain their valuable skills while meeting workforce needs in Scotland's priority growth sectors.
