Modern universities in Scotland twice as likely to have ‘loyal’ graduates

MillionPlus, the Association for Modern Universities, published research showing that students at modern universities in Scotland are nearly twice as likely to stay local to where they study than those who attend Scotland’s pre-1992 universities.

This means 31% of graduates from Scotland’s modern universities are from a region, study there and remain to work there. They are particularly important in areas such as education, healthcare, social care and creative industries.

They call for greater recognition of the role of modern universities and the value of ‘loyal;’ graduates, ensuring a broad mix of subjects in regions so they have access to the range of skills needed, and for graduate retention strategies to be embedded in the National Strategy for Economic Transformation.
