Half of UK adults feel young people have fewer opportunities
A DWP survey of UK adults aged 16 to 75 explores the population’s attitudes towards young people and work. Reflecting findings from the interim Milburn report, 50% of respondents feel that young people have fewer opportunities than in the past, with those aged 16 to 24 most likely to agree.
36% of respondents say this lack of opportunity is mainly down to lack of availability of apprenticeships and entry level jobs and 32% believe it is due to the lack of part-time and work experience opportunities. However, 35% feel it is due to young people lacking motivation to work.
Half of those completing the survey felt that government should prioritise more apprenticeship opportunities, 45% say more skills training and education courses should be funded and 42% want more work experience options.
