Graduate jobs changing rather than disappearing with AI
The Student Development Survey 2026 from the Institute of Student Employers (ISE) shows entry-level roles for graduates are being ‘reshaped not replaced’ by AI.
The survey of 144 employers showed that the shift in roles for new graduates is less about jobs disappearing and more about how AI will change them – in some cases dramatically. 87% of employers expect the use of AI to change graduate and apprentice roles, with 58% expecting minor amendments and 29% expecting major changes. FMCG, tourism and legal sectors anticipate the largest impacts.
Only 18% forecast more than 10% of graduate entry-level jobs would disappear, while 42% expect a smaller reduction and 40% don’t foresee any shrinkage.
