Employment costs remain a challenge for Scottish businesses
The latest Business Insights and Conditions Survey (BICS) provides an insight into how Scottish businesses are managing workforce related costs. While most businesses expect employment costs to remain stable, a notable proportion anticipate further increases during the coming months.
The latest survey indicates that a proportion of Scottish businesses expect employment costs to rise over the coming months, reflecting ongoing pressures from wages and other workforce-related costs. Employment costs include salaries, National Insurance contributions and other staff-related expenses.
Although inflation has eased from recent highs, many employers continue to face ongoing cost pressures. Labour costs remain a significant consideration for businesses as they balance workforce investment, recruitment and wider financial planning.
The findings indicate that cost pressures are not being experienced equally across all sectors, reflecting differences in workforce size, staffing models and business activity across the Scottish economy.
