DWP responds to Pathways to Work Consultation
The DWP has published a response to the evidence it received for its Pathways to Work consultation – the largest in its history.
The consultation closed in June and gathered perspectives on reform of the support available to disabled people and those with health conditions.
Key areas included support for the Right to Try Work guarantee, with feedback saying one of the biggest barriers to trying work was the fear of permanently losing support. There was strong criticism of the current assessment system and to limiting support based on age.
The idea of support conversations with employment advisers (no mentions of careers support) was welcomed, but should be voluntary rather than mandatory, as this would change the nature of the engagement.
In response to the consultation, the Government has paused changes to PIP eligibility criteria, instead initiating the Timms Review to better explore the challenges. They are working with disabled groups to produced detailed proposals on other areas.
