Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of primary school careers film

Education and Employers are celebrating 10 years since they launched their first film – Redraw the Balance - challenging primary school pupils’ views of gender in careers.

The original film, made in schools in the UK, asked children aged five to seven to draw people in occupations. Almost all the children drew men in those roles, then the children were introduced to three people doing those occupations – all women. The children’s reactions underscored the importance of challenging gender stereotypes in careers from an early age.

The video has been viewed 100 million times and referenced widely. An international version followed and to mark the 10-year anniversary, a new version has been released in Italy.
