Members of the EPSC
All members of the EPSC are elected by the membership for a term of three years, renewable once. The EPSC is led by an elected Chair and is made up of up to two representatives for each professional constituency and one representative for each national constituency.
EPSC members also form the judging panels for the UK Career Development Awards and, with members of the CDI Board, ratify the award of CDI Fellowships.

I am a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the MA & PgDip Career Development and Employability at the University of Huddersfield. Much of my work involves supporting future career development professionals to build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for effective one-to-one and group practice, with a particular interest in helping students connect academic learning with real-world practice. I have been a member of the CDI Ethics and Professional Standards Committee since 2023 and am currently serving my second term. Outside work, I enjoy walking along the coast and am excited to be moving to the seaside soon to realise a long-held dream of waking up to a sea view.
Managing Director of Ideas4Careers, delivering high-quality career guidance services to education and leading career-related projects with local authorities to strengthen education–business links. I lead a large team of qualified practitioners supporting schools across the East and West Midlands. Winner of the UK Career Development Award 2025 for impact in secondary schools and primary sector development. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, licensed Quality in Careers Standard assessor, and member of EPSC I support continuous improvement in careers practice.
Valerie is an independent career development professional working with adults at all career stages through individual and group career support. She also partners with organisations to support employee career development, internal mobility and manager capability, and works with postgraduate students in several business schools.
I am a freelance RCDP (level 7) with four decades of experience in delivering career guidance, careers education, training and assessment. I was made a CDI Fellow in 2023 and won a national award for careers education development in 2013, gaining ‘outstanding’ inspection feedback for my work when school-based. I co-wrote one of the first careers quality awards and continue to assess and develop careers education and guidance programmes in both primary and secondary education using the framework. I have written careers and training materials for a wide range of audiences, and am co-moderator for the CDI’s Community of Practice.
I am Janet Hutchinson originally a secondary English and maths teacher. I became a career education specialist in 2001.I have lived and worked in a variety of countries and regions including the USA, West Africa, London and Scotland. I settled in the East Midlands in 2001. Following my recent retirement as a founding partner with Complete-Career LLP I am now a freelance assessor at Complete Careers LLP for quality awards including Career Mark Primary. I represent the career education constituency of the CDI.
I bring almost 20 years’ experience in the careers sector, with a strong focus on supporting young people, particularly those with disabilities. My career has progressed from frontline delivery into senior leadership roles, including team leader and area manager, where I have overseen multi-authority services and supported the development of careers professionals.
My background is in the voluntary sector including working in and managing services in mental health, homelessness and community education over the years. I still work within the sector offering career coaching to staff and service users, supporting staff teams as a reflective practice facilitator and as a career coach for a social enterprise. I was the first ever Voluntary and Community Sector representative on the committee and am delighted to be serving a second term, hoping to strengthen the voice for this constituency within the CDI.
I am a careers professional who has worked in CEIAG for more than 25 years and also train and develop careers staff into schools and colleges and local authorities. I have a keen interest in professional standards and ethics. I write curriculum and develop training packages to support students/learners as well as still practicing as a RCDP. My career has taken me into schools, colleges and training providers as well as into HE settings. I am also currently a CDI representative for Yorkshire and Humber. 
I began my career working in education and training before securing an Outreach Adviser role in Careers Wales almost 25 years ago. As a Careers Adviser I worked with pupils in schools, unemployed young people, those who had been made redundant and the long-term unemployed, using a mixture of face-to-face interviews and group sessions. My passion for helping people led to my current role as a Learning and Development Co-ordinator. I am a qualified assessor currently working with Level 6 and Career Leader candidates and also a qualified IQA.
I have worked in the education, community development, employability and the career development sectors over the last 20 years- with six of those years being in my current role with Skills Development Scotland. Previous experience has included roles at New College Lanarkshire, Job Centre Australia and a member on the board of Greenock Morton Community Trust from 2020-2025. I hold a Bachelor of Education (Hons) from University of Aberdeen and Post Graduate Diploma in Career Guidance and Development from the University of the West of Scotland.
