The value of supervision for CDPs and how we can access it

Many career development professionals practice in isolation, either as employees of the schools and colleges or as independent practitioners. This webinar will provide delegates with the opportunity to experience and engage with a peer to peer supervision session, to gain an insight into this valuable form of professional support.

CPD theme: Evidence-based practice

The webinar will be a combination of presentation, discussion and working in smaller groups in breakout rooms. Delegates are requested to consider preparing an anonymised case study drawn from their own experience and practice which could then be volunteered as content for a peer to peer supervision discussion in a small group.

Aims and Outcomes
  • Increase understanding of the value of Supervision and how it supports how we manage professional and ethical dilemmas and apply the Code of Ethics.
  • Explore mechanisms and media for applying this function across the profession.
  • Gain experience of how a peer to peer session is run – especially relevant to those who do not have line management or supervision in place, e.g. sole traders, private practitioners and others.

The updated Code of Ethics states that supervision plays a vital role in supporting excellent and ethical practice. Supervision addresses the need to develop knowledge and skills, ensuring that professional standards are maintained and, equally importantly, addressing the need to maint the wellbeing and resilience of practitioners.
