The biggest change to the higher education funding system is being implemented and will come into force on 1 January 2027. The Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) will replace the traditional student finance system in England for post-18 undergraduate education. The government is adopting a carefully phased approach to the rollout of modular provision, with a narrower range of modular study available at launch. These significant changes will shift the system from block funding for whole degrees to a flexible, credit-based model.
