Neuroinclusive Careers Support: Breaking Down Barriers to Employment

CPD topic: Neurodvergent-friendly guidance and applications

This 1-hour session, comprising 45 minutes of content followed by 15 minutes of Q&A, introduces neurodiversity and explores the role careers practitioners can play in breaking down barriers to employment and career development. Participants will explore the social model of disability and common barriers neurodivergent people may encounter when accessing careers guidance, during transitional periods, and in recruitment, interviews and the workplace. This exploration will be underpinned by a regonition that clients will have different experiences, strengths and support needs.
 
The session will provide practical approaches for making careers conversations and employment support more neuroinclusive, including interview preparation, discussing adjustments and sharing of needs, preparing clients for workplace environments and expectations, and responding to potential barriers. Participants will also explore useful resources and signposting options, helping them support clients confidently. The session is designed for careers practitioners and advisers with varied levels of existing knowledge and experience of neurodiversity inclusion.
