Mentoring

Mentoring relationships work best when they move beyond the directive approach of a senior colleague ‘telling it how it is’, to one where both the mentor and the mentee both learn from each other. An effective mentoring relationship is a learning opportunity for both parties, encouraging sharing and learning across generations and/or between roles. (CIPD)

Mentors:

  • respond to the developmental needs of the mentee
  • work to the mentee’s agenda and not their own
  • assist mentees to develop their options
  • help mentees to come to their own decisions

The CDI Mentoring Scheme

CDI trained Mentors who abide by the CDI Mentoring Code of Conduct can provide up to four free mentoring sessions of an hour’s duration to CDI Members.

Mentees are matched to suitable Mentors by the CDI.

The scheme will run again in 2024 and details of this and how to apply to have a Mentor will be provided in News by Email and on the CDI website.
