About Me

My role as Careers Lead at Truro and Penwith College looks at both strategy and delivery. The successful completion of the master’s Diploma in Careers Leadership, from Nottingham Trent University has enhanced all aspects of how I point the looking glass at this. My main focus is to be inspirational, relevant and engender excitement into career management and research.

I coordinate the day-to-day work and development of the careers advisory staff within the college, maintaining the impact and visibility of what we do internally and externally. Keeping on top of legislation, economic developments, labour market information is a must for the best practice of delivery. I have introduced the ‘Career Station’ branding/concept to the college and have set up ‘Career Champions ‘which link careers to the curriculum areas. All of this ensures that CEIAG has the correct representation and priority, so that meaningful conversations occur helping students realise their future. Career Station helps students arrive at various destinations on their career journey.

A highlight of my role is steering Truro & Penwith through the 3-yearly cycle of the Quality in Careers standard through Investors in Careers (which incorporates all 8 Gatsby Benchmarks). Collating the required evidence for the 4 stages (Commitment, Organisation, Delivery and Evaluation), ensuring that Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance processes are in place and implementing quality procedures makes this a meticulous and challenging task, yet one which captures the true essence of CEIAG permeating through the college. As Careers Leader this achievement speaks for itself in a landscape which often gets overlooked and underfunded. I take pride in adhering to the CDI's code of ethics.
