About Me
I am a qualified and experienced careers advisor and further education teacher/lecturer. I have worked for thirty years in various educational settings based in Gloucestershire and elsewhere to include the CDI, Gloucestershire Probation Service, local colleges, schools, Connexions offices and community education. My roles have included the following:
Working as an advisor in local Connexions office delivering advice and guidance to adults.
Education Officer/Project Manager employed by Gloucestershire Probation Service seconded to manage an ESF Co-Financing project (Gateway to Learning and Employment) that included access to advice and guidance for progression. I also worked with clients accessing the Gloucestershire Drugs and Rehabilitation Service, offenders on Community Orders and with Drug Rehabilitation Requirements on Community Orders. Additionally, I obtained funding for a national project – Maths4Life (NRDC) to support this work.
Managing vocational delivery - Development Officer for Accreditation within Adult and Community Learning provision. This role included advice and guidance support, training as a Nextstep Advisor and co-ordinating a NIACE project to support the development of a qualification that trained volunteers to work with ICT learners in community settings - The Volunteer Learning Support Network. This was a successful project that led to ESF funding to further develop this work.
Acting as a mentor for middle managers working in a national engineering company on a project that was linked to the organisation’s appraisal process.
I have delivered a range of NVQs to apprentices in a local further education college and providing advice and guidance where appropriate. I have also worked as an External Quality Assurer for a leading awarding organisation for Advice and Guidance, PTLLS and Level 6, Careers Guidance and Development. Additionally, I have developed and delivered ILM and CIPD qualifications at college.
I was also employed as the Careers Lead for a local independent school in Gloucestershire where I delivered 1-1 careers guidance across all year groups - 7 - 13; I have just returned from retirement to continue to work for the CDI as an IQA for the Career Leader, Level 6 and Level 4 career programmes.
