About Me

My work as a 'Careers and University Guidance Counsellor' has involved providing a full School Careers provision (from Year 7-13). This included opportunities to explore career ideas and potential career paths, learning from sector professionals. Developing extensive work experience programmes, fully integrated into the school curriculum, and running a yearly ‘Careers Convention’, were key enablers in supporting students' career journeys. Vertical links between year groups were cemented as students played interviewer/ Interviewee roles in mock interviews (Year 10 students interviewing Year 7 and Year 12s interviewing Year 10s for jobs). Each student was supported in his/her progressive exploration of potential routes into career areas of interest, relevant Higher Education systems worldwide and potential Vocational Routes, enabling our students to make informed choices about their future career journey. Irrespective of Year 11 students completing Psychometric and/or Interest profiling, their individual career guidance interviews formed a key part of their ongoing support. Year 12 and 13 students were guided through their university explorations and subsequent applications to universities in a wide variety of countries, taking account of application deadlines and hugely varying admissions requirements. Subsequently working as an ‘International Careers Adviser’, I have supported International schools in the UK, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Thailand and Hong Kong. I currently work as an ‘International Careers Adviser’, supporting students (Years 10-13) in exploring realistic options for the future, potential career paths, application procedures for relevant higher education (HE) establishments globally and potential Vocational Routes. I support students attending State, Private and International Schools in the UK, as well as International schools in France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Thailand and Hong Kong. This includes providing one-to-one guidance discussions, usually following psychometric profiling, and delivering careers presentations. My work also involves supporting students with SEND, both in mainstream and dedicated 'SEND Schools', who have a range of extra challenges to overcome, an opportunity that has been enlightening and rewarding.
