Lincoln Tapper

About Me

Lincoln Tapper is a British Jamaican who grew up in East London. He lives in Watford, Hertfordshire with his wife and adult autistic son. His current role is a a Special Needs Career Adviser with Essex County Council. Lincoln has worked in a variety of settings including mainstream, special and non-maintained special and independent schools. Also with young people that are EOTIS and NEET. His other roles working with young people include personal adviser, pastoral support officer, youth pastor, and learning mentor. With the Autism and ADHD Trust (Add-Vance) he worked as a Neurodiversity Adviser supporting young people and adults to develop a neuro-affirmative understanding of their neuro-divergence.

Lincoln's interest in special educational needs began when he was on placement and visited a special school in Dagenham and Redbridge. That interest continued to grow when he visited the newly opened Hillingdon Manor, the first autism independent specialist school in the UK. His first SEND Career Adviser role was with the Education Development Trust in Harrow.

Lincoln adopts a social model of disability ethos to his role. Yet still acknowledges the relevance of the medical science and the substantial impact on a person who is living with a disability. Lincoln sees himself as a innovative practitioner who adopts an intersectional and cultural approach to his work. Recognising that some frameworks exclude differences that were created outside of the dominant theoretical approach.
