About Me

I am a Level 7 qualified Careers Consultant and Fellow of Advance HE with extensive experience working in HE, FE, Schools, Probation and as a volunteer Employability & Progression Mentor for the King's Trust. I am currently working as a peripatetic School Careers Adviser for SEETEC and have a Careers Adviser freelance contract with FutureSmart Careers. I have been a Careers Adviser for more than 30 years and recently returned to being freelance setting up my Make Your Move Careers Consultancy. There has never been a more important time for young people to have access to impartial Careers information, advice and guidance.

The ONS estimates nearly 1 million 16-24 year old are NEET. That's 1:8 young people in this age group. Successive government's and this government continue to fail these young people. That's why I continue to work and volunteer as a Careers Adviser because a good Careers Adviser really can help young people to be adaptable, motivated, have the capability to make informed decisions and develop the growth mindset, skills and self confidence to succeed both now and in the long-term. In this complex and fast changing world, quality Careers, information advice and guidance really matters to ensure this generation of school leavers have access to the best chances in life and therefore achieve their full potential.

In terms of my own career path, I left school at 16 with no real careers guidance, but I was lucky enough to encounter some truly inspiring teachers at FE Colleges and then at Polytechnic. They helped me uncover a love for studying psychology, which set me on the path to becoming a Careers Adviser—a career I’ve loved ever since and still find rewarding and energising.
