Duncan”s Journey - The Fine Art of Turning Chaos in Calling

Having fused the career ambition of becoming a Plastic Surgeon into my psyche as an eight-year-old watching “The Battle of Britain”, and seeing my education dashed on the rocks of my parent”s split - on the eve of my O” Levels. Then having reinvented myself at 17 with my sights set on winning the coveted Green Beret of the Royal Marines, I was forced to drop-out of basic training due to chronic stress fractures in both legs. I have learnt the vital life-skill of overcoming adversity, fuelled passion, perseverance and purpose.    
Already feeling like my life was destined to tail-spin out of control by my early twenties, I picked-up the wrecks of my repeated attempts to discover and fulfil my potential, I reinvented myself as a professional golfer, then swimming teacher and then sports coach via the first wave of leisure management diplomas aimed at staffing the newly-invented leisure industry of the early 1980s.  
 
During which time I had to absorb many more life-transforming shocks; including, the heartbreak of losing my father when he was a mere 51. Then, following a decade managing large sports complexes and retail management roles for prestige brands like: First Leisure Corporation, Ton-Sur-Ton, Thistle Hotels, Slaley Hall and Lacoste; covering sales, marketing, PR and operational management, I eventually zeroed-in on the work I was born to do at the ripe-old age of 32!    

More by process of elimination than any preconceived career plan. Ever since, I have been evangelising about just that - the discovery of fulfilling purpose achieved through making sense of the attributes, life-experiences, gifts, talents, skills, values and knowledge we possess. The maximising of potential through the decoding of occupational DNA; leading to lives fuelled by the driving force of purpose; coupled with the ability to love the person we truly are inside.     

This is the key to success and happiness

My journey continues to evolve. For the last 10 years I have been coaching Board-level executives on motivation, re-discovering their mojo and helping them tune-in to, not only to what makes themselves tick, but how they align purposeful people to accomplish the mission detailed in their Business Plan.    I also love the work I was born to do and continue to help people from all walks of life zero-in on the occupation they were born to do
