About Me
I have been working as a qualified career and self-development coach since 2007, when I achieved my PgCert in Coaching from Lancaster University. Since completing my PgDip in Careers Guidance from LSBU in 2010, I have been specifically focusing on those students and job seekers with disabilitites/ learning differences since 2010 (within schools, colleges, youth careers services, adult employment services and privately).
Currently I am working with job seekers (of all ages) who have a disability and/or learning difference to find employment. This includes all job seekers on the Neurodiverse spectrum (e.g. Aspergers, Tourettes, Dyslexia etc), plus clients with mental health issues and anxiety. Some are graduates but many are not with little or no qualifications or experience.
My passion is focused on getting younger adults onto the first step of the career ladder as the current jobs market is not working in their favour & I feel they could really do with the extra support to help break down any barriers they are facing.
Prior to career coaching I worked in recruitment (both agency and in-house) and in other Human Resource departments for large corporations (e.g. Training & Talent Management). I have gained extensive experience of other employment, working for a range of companies (Small to Blue Chip) in a variety of industry sectors and positions including supervisor and management roles.
All this experience alongside my qualifications & training gives me the edge as a career coach because I understand exactly what and how people need to prepare themselves in order to be successful in the job market because I used to be the one recruiting them.
- I have a particular interest and understanding of the additional support young adults with special needs and disability (SEND) need in order to achieve their goals.
- I have successfully worked with students who are disengaging with school/college/life to re-engage with their studies and with the long term unemployed to re-engage with work in whichever capacity they can manage.
- Many (though not all) find they have been able to come through the education system without having aspirations developed and nurtured and where certain talents and skills have not been recognised or even been allowed.
- My experience and coaching style encourages and supports the development of these aspirations and together we investigate what their talents/skills might be and how these could be translated and transferred into the world of work.
My clients are coached to not only improve their job search/application skills but to also improve their personal skills such as confidence in communicating, resilience and presenting themselves professionally using different methods e.g. face to face, written or online.
I offer support with both work & study reasonable adjustments.
