About Me
**Please note that I am not currently available for work, but love to network, share good practice and work on interesting projects**I am now working full time in the 'Careersphere' and love it. I love networking, sharing innovative ideas, learning from people's career-stories, and working with professionals to have a genuine impact on the lives of the young people that trust me to give them careers education, information, advice and (now-qualified) guidance. Even after the career change, my 19-years of experience as a teacher and head of sixth form informs my work daily.
My own journey was unique itself - my dad was in the armed forces and our family moved around a lot. I went to ten schools, growing up; I lived in Cyprus when he toured with the UN, lived in Berlin when the wall came down, and happily welcomed him home when he completed his tours. My mum worked so many different jobs to help make ends meet, and had to uproot every time Dad got a new posting - when he retired and became a postmaster, she was a talented retail manager and someone the community would rely on. I was the first in my family to graduate from university, while my brother has a successful retail career. I have seen first-hand in my own family how different routes suit different people - the importance is making sure those choices are informed ones.
My school is non-selective while surrounded by grammar schools. We are right next to leafy Sevenoaks, but our community consists of a wide range of young people who have an even wider range of challenges, whether that is care-experience, disadvantage, disabilities and learning difficulties, trauma-experience, or wider societal issues like the impact of stereotypes on the opportunities that are available or that they perceive (or not) for themselves. I'm proud to be working at a school that actively challenges and has high expectations for those young people, and am excited about the new chance I have to be a part of that journey for them.
