Q. What motivates this project? A. A critical data gap....
The motivation for this study is because:
1) Feedback: We have received both anecdotal feedback and survey results from career advisers that indicate recurring causes for concern. However, we haven't related these to resources.
2) Policy discussion: We are also engaged with Government departments, championing the sector, so need to reflect the true situation in these discussions. There could be a risk to policy delivery if resourcing is not sufficient, or other barriers exist, that hinder delivery of career services. It is in all of our interests to have a more accurate view of the landscape.
3) Other signals: We have seen other relatively recent research (e.g. the Youth Census, BDO, Engineering UK) that suggest only a fraction of students are getting individual career support through school.
While we now have many metrics about career services in schools and colleges from the CEC, we are nonetheless unclear about the level and variability in resourcing-levels, including but transcending, the resourcing of Career Advisers and Career Leaders.
We are looking for Career Leaders from all types of schools and colleges to complete this exercise, to provide a better picture for everyone.
We believe Career Leaders are very well positioned to give this view, given the role and remit.
