Welsh workforce focused on stability over ambition

Employment Hero’s inaugural Annual Jobs Report reveals that workers in Wales are increasingly prioritising job security over career ambition, amid perceptions of a weakening labour market.

While many feel settled in their current roles, the report also highlights optimism around adaptability, skills relevance, and access to training.

The report finds that 55% of Welsh workers feel settled in their current role, with no intention to move. 63% believe the labour market is worsening, and 39% feel there is too much competition for jobs.

Job security is now prioritised over ambition, with many workers “job hugging” to weather economic uncertainty. Despite this, 39% are confident they could secure a new job within three months and 57% feel their skills are valuable in the evolving jobs market, indicating resilience and adaptability.

76% are confident about adapting to new technologies, while 37% say their employer provides good training and upskilling opportunities, suggesting scope for internal progression.
