Union Learning Fund to regain government funding
The Chancellor, John Healey, set out a return of funding for the Union Learning Fund to help adults back into education.
The ULF was established in 1998, but funding was removed by the then Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, in 2021.
The Chancellor set out expectations for £15 million to restore the ULF in England, looking to return to the levels of adult training support achieved previously, as the ULF is estimated to have helped 180,000 learners a year.
The funding will support the work of trade unions working with employers to enhance education and learning opportunities, with the aim of helping people ‘gain new skills, progress at work and adapt as technology, including AI, changes the workplace’.
No date was given for the restart of funding with details expected to be set out in the forthcoming budget.
