UK bottom of G7 countries on Longer Working Lives index
The first Fidelity Longer Working Lives Index has been published, exploring the support available to over-55s across the G7 countries. It looks at whether over-55s are able to work, whether they want to work, whether they are in work and whether they find their work rewarding.
The UK ranked last among G7 countries with citizens having low confidence in their retirement plans. It scored low in whether they want to work, are working and have fulfilling work. Financial considerations were a key factor in considering working longer, whereas the motivation in other countries tended more towards fulfilment.
Italy and the US ranked highest in the index, but each country had positive examples and good practice. Japan rates highly on employment rates but lower in other areas such as quality of work.
