Survey to shape the future of England’s occupational standards
Skills England is seeking feedback on how occupational standards can better support learners, employers and other users.
Occupational standards support England’s technical education system and aim to ensure training provision is aligned with employer needs. The Skills for Work programme, led by Skills England Chair Phil Smith, is exploring how occupational standards and the materials that use them, need to adapt to meet the current and future needs of individuals, employer, and others who rely on them.
As part of this work, Skills England are seeking feedback on how the occupational standards can better support learners, employers and local economies.

- How to improve simplicity and flexibility for employers and make it easier to respond to emerging regional and national skills needs;
- How participation by young people could be increased;
- Whether occupational standards are sufficiently aligned with growth priorities;
- Whether there are gaps in provision and how these should be addressed;
- Whether there are lessons we can learn from international comparisons to strengthen the system here.
