Support UNISON’s MP campaign to strengthen careers guidance
UNISON has launched a campaign for careers development professionals to write to their MP calling for greater investment in careers guidance for young people.
A template letter, including a link to find your local MP, has been published which career development professionals are encouraged to use and adapt to their own style, to support a call for careers guidance to be strengthened in schools.
It lays out the value that high-quality career guidance can add for young people, society and the economy. It argues that, while England has a good framework, the investment in career guidance in schools is insufficient for consistent, high-quality delivery.
It calls on MPs to press the government to invest in qualified careers advisers in schools with ringfenced funding, to establish national quality standards for post-16 careers guidance, and adopt the Career Guidance Guarantee developed by the CDPG (of which UNISON and the CDI are members).
CDI members are encouraged to engage with the campaign by downloading and amending the letter to reflect their own experience, and sending it to their local MP.
