Skills England publishes UK Standards Skills Classification

Skills England has published the UK Standard Skills Classification (SSC) – standardised lists of skills, knowledge and tasks required for occupations across the UK.

The SSC is a hierarchical classification for over 3,000 skills that are needed for competence in specific job tasks. Each Occupational Skill is linked to Tasks and Core Skills and the framework has five levels – starting with 22 Skill Domains at the top then cascading down to 106 Skill Areas, then 606 Skill Groups, 3,343 Occupational Skills and finally 21,963 Occupational Tasks.

Two types of skills are recognised – Occupational Skills are the capability to competently perform an Occupational Task, and Core Skills are more fundamental capabilities that help carry out tasks required in a job.
