Pre-budget business confidence remains low, but indicators are improving

The Institute of Directors’ Economic Confidence Index shows business confidence at historic lows in the lead up to the Chancellor’s Autumn Budget. The survey of business leader optimism in the economy remained at a historically low -73 for October, only slightly improved from -74 in September.

However, underlying indicators saw improvements, with revenue expectations rising from zero to +13, headcount from -13 to -2, investment intentions from -20 to -13 and export intentions from -8 to -6.
