NTFW urges policymakers to back Welsh apprenticeships
The National Training Federation for Wales (NTFW) has urged policymakers to keep apprenticeships central to the skills system. Providers are navigating significant changes to funding arrangements and programme design. The federation welcomed clearer communication around reforms but called for stability and long-term clarity. It emphasised the contribution apprenticeships make to learners, employers and local economies.
NTFW raised concerns about capacity pressures within Jobs Growth Wales+. It warned that delays risk disengaging young people and increasing NEET levels. The federation is seeking ministerial discussions to reduce waiting lists and improve access. As the update notes, “timely provision was described as critical to progression and confidence.”
The federation also referenced recent consultation responses on skills and bilingual provision. Priorities include sustainable funding and stronger alignment between skills and economic policy. It reiterated the need for parity between vocational and academic routes, highlighting the resilience of providers and the sector’s commitment to learner success.
