

New Civil Service internship scheme aims to attract more working class students
Earlier this year, the UK Government announced a new Career Launch apprenticeship scheme, targeted at young people and school leavers, as well as an ambition for the Fast Stream programme to offer 50% of placements outside London by 2030,
Now, the Government have announced that students from working class backgrounds are set to benefit from a Summer Internship Programme that aims to boost social mobility in the Civil Service. The scheme offers talented undergraduates from lower socio-economic backgrounds a chance to experience working in the Civil Service.
This addresses existing issues where applicants from lower income backgrounds are less likely to get a place on the Fast Stream programme, and is part of the Government's agenda to make the Civil Service more representative of the people it serves.
