Ministerial change in Scotland for careers and post-school education
Following a minor reshuffle in the Scottish Government, Graeme Dey has been replaced by Ben Macpherson as Minister for Higher and Further Education. His remit includes responsibility for career services and post-school educational reform.
Ben Macpherson had to hit the ground running as he was in the Scottish Parliament on 25/9/25 for the Stage 1 Debate: Tertiary Education and Training (Funding and Governance) (Scotland) Bill. The Bill passed this stage with the support of the Scottish Greens. Labour, the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats opposed the Bill.
Specifically, opposition parties raised queries about whether restructuring post-16 funding agencies – and the costs of transferring staff from SDS to SFC - would bring benefits that outweighed the costs.
Graeme Dey retains his brief as Minister for Veterans, while taking on a new responsibility for parliamentary business.
