Future of Jobs Report shows 78 million new jobs globally
The Future of Jobs Report 2025 from the World Economic Forum shows a net increase of 78 million jobs worldwide, though a significant proportion being disrupted.
The report shows that 170 new jobs were created in the year, partly offset by 92 million jobs being ‘displaced’. The fastest growing occupations included data analytics, AI and machine learning, environmental engineering, education, care and health.
Skills gaps remain an issue, with 63% of employers citing them as a key challenge to organisational development. Positively, 85% of employers aim to at least partially address this with plans to upskill their workforce and provide training in areas like AI.
One of the main factors causing disruption to jobs is AI and automation, with 71% saying they will recruit workers with AI skills but 41% of employers saying they will see job losses due to AI. The green transition is another major factor, creating 34 million new jobs. Other disruptors included the fragmentation of the global economy, uncertainty over the economy and changes in demographics.
