DWP launches new Jobs and Careers Service
The government has announced the launch of the DWP Jobs and Careers Service in England to replace the National Careers Service from 1st October. This follows the completion of the process to transfer NCS staff from third party providers into DWP to form the new service.
From 1st October, careers advice for adults and under-18s who are eligible, will be delivered by careers advisers working for DWP, while schools and colleges will continue to support other young people.
The announcement on the existing NCS website states that the new service will be part of the Jobs and Careers Service (JCS). However, in launch communications, the careers advice element was referred to as the DWP Careers Service in England, so this may yet be the name for the careers element of JCS.
The announcement included the renaming of the NCS website to ‘Get careers information and advice’, though the web address will remain nationalcareers.service.gov.uk. This ensures that all existing links to NCS content will work after the change. The website will also be getting a rebranding to look more like a GOV.Uk website.
The new JCS includes a new website – the Work Hub – that has already launched. It includes an AI work assistant, CV builder and ‘find a job’ service, which are fairly rudimentary but likely to be developed over time.
Clients will no longer be able to access careers support through web chat on the website, by email or post. Clients will need to use a new freephone number – 0800 072 0288 – and those calling the current 0800 100 900 number will be asked to redial on the new number.
